Art Made Audible

Last night marked the beginning of a new collective and concert series called Art Made Audible, a gathering of like-minded composers who are dedicated to the writing of new music inspired by the visual art of living artists and photographers. A concert of new music with seven world premieres was presented last night in Cambridge, Massachusetts at the Lilypad, a small venue that hosts concerts for just such a cause. Presented was music by David Janssen, Shawna Wolff, Forrest Pierce, Anne Guzzo, Timothy Miller, Allie McIntosh and Jack Wilds. Each of these composers has at least one other thing in common besides this particular concert and the collective. They all met at the Wyoming Festival in Grand Teton National Park held in August 2017 where they each wrote and presented music for string ensembles based on the Grand Teton experience. For the Art Made Audible concert, each composer wrote a piece for saxophone quartet (Andy Wilds, Sean Mix, Bennett Parsons, Morgan Smallwood) based on the photographic art of Jan Arabas. Her photos just happened to be of the Grand Teton National Park, which made for a poigniant beginning for this project. Stay tuned for more developments from this new and intriguing set of composers, and as further concerts are programmed in the coming months. Visit their website at www.artmadeaudible.com.
